What is new in ADR 2025
DGAssistant issues the road documentation under ADR 2025, applicable since 1 January 2025 and binding without transition since 1 July 2025. This note gathers what the edition brought and what it means for your shipments.
Ten new UN numbers
Among the entries added, two deserve attention because they are turning up in ordinary traffic. Sodium-ion batteries entered the list with UN 3551 and UN 3552, alongside the lithium entries that were already there. Extinguishing agent dispersal devices received UN 0514 and UN 3559, one in class 1 and the other in class 9 depending on how the device works.
Vehicles that carry the goods
The edition opens the vehicle categories to the technologies that are replacing diesel. A battery electric vehicle may now be an FL vehicle, and a vehicle powered by a hydrogen fuel cell may be an AT or an FL vehicle. If you are renewing your fleet, this is what allows the new units to keep doing the work of the old ones.
Waste, bulk and simplified classification
New provisions cover the transportation of molten aluminium in bulk, waste carried in packagings and bulk waste containing asbestos. Special provision 650 allows a simplified classification of waste paint and coating material, which spares a full characterisation on a stream that is common in industry.
The document travels in the cab
Since July 2025 the transport document has to be kept in the driver's cab, so that whoever attends an incident finds at once what is being carried. It sounds minor and it is not: it changes where the driver has to keep the paperwork you hand over.
What you have to do in DGAssistant
The application applies the edition in force in the classification, the 1.1.3.6 calculation, the tunnel restriction codes and the transport document. Review the predefined products you created before 2025 whose classification may have moved, and make sure your drivers carry the document where the ADR now requires.
